Eternal Life: Few There Be That Find It

By David J. Stewart | October 2009

Matthew 7:14, “Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”

Matthew 7:14 teaches that there are only a few people that make it to Heaven. The reason is not because salvation is hard, it is not hard. Salvation is quite easy. 2nd Corinthians 11:3 in the King James Bible speaks of THE SIMPLICITY THAT IS IN CHRIST. We are the SINNERS and Jesus is the SAVIOR. It's that simple. So then why do only a few people make it to Heaven?

The reason why is because most people have been deceived by false religion and secular philosophy. The Bible says in 2nd Corinthians 4:4 that Satan is the GOD OF THIS WORLD, and that he hath BLINDED THE MINDS OF THEM WHICH BELIEVE NOT... lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

This is why public school children are taught the lie of Evolution, to keep them in darkness concerning the Gospel. This is why so many evangelical ministers today are telling people to follow Christ, or give their heart to Christ, or make a commitment to Christ; but that is not Biblical salvation. Many people followed Jesus for a handout, but they were not saved. Judas was one of Christ's very own Apostles, but he was unsaved. The Gospel has been corrupted in most religious circles today, and the truth suppressed. Thus, few people are finding the strait gate , the narrow way, which leadeth unto life. What is that narrow way? It is Jesus Christ. There is NO other way to Heaven than through the name of Jesus Christ. That's how narrow the way of life is. You go through Jesus Christ or you don't go at all.

Salvation requires the recognition of one's sinnership—the admission that we are as vile a sinner as God has declared us to be in His Word, and believing on Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God, to forgive our sins. It's that simple. If you come to God the Father as a dirty, rotten, guilty, sinner—trusting upon God the Son, Jesus Christ, then you will be saved. Romans 10:13 promises, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” If you appeal unto the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, then you WILL BE saved. That is God's promise. Salvation is freely given (Romans 5:15), freely offered (Romans 10:13), and freely received (Revelation 22:17). Salvation is receiving, not giving.

It is difficult to grasp, seeing that salvation is so simple and free, that so many people would still be going to Hell. Yet, it is nonetheless true. Over 1,000,000,000 Catholics are on the highway to Hell and destruction, because instead of solely relying upon the redemptive work of Christ, they are also relying upon their own self-righteousness and religion. Jesus plainly told the religious Scribes and Pharisees in Mark 7:13 that they had made THE WORD OF GOD OF NONE EFFECT THROUGH YOUR TRADITION. The Catholic Church is steeped in manmade traditions.

There are another 1,300,000,000 Islamic Muslims who are on the highway to Hell, because they openly deny that Jesus is the Messiah, nor that He even died on the cross. They knowingly reject Jesus Christ.

Then there's 1,000,000,000 followers1 of the Hindu religion, who adamantly deny that Jesus is the Son of God, the Christ.

Sadly, there's another 400,000,000 followers of Buddhism, Sikhism, the Bahá'í Faith, Scientology and Judaism who openly deny that Jesus is the Savior. Add to that an unknown number of atheists, which certainly must be at least 300,000,000.

Add those numbers together and that's 4,000,000,000 people so far who are all Christ-rejecters! Is it any wonder why Jesus said few people would find the strait gate and the narrow way which leadeth unto life?

WIKIPEDIA has a page named False messiah, which lists Jesus Christ as a false Messiah. The majority of people in this wicked world do NOT recognize Jesus as the Son of God, the Christ, Who came into this world to SAVE SINNERS!

Yet, the Bible adamantly claims in Acts 4:10-12, “Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of JESUS CHRIST of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, Whom God raised from the dead, even by Him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under Heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

And again we read in Acts 10:43, “To Him give all the prophets witness, that through His name whosoever believeth in Him shall receive remission of sins.”

Jesus Himself said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Everything which the Word of God teaches, from Genesis to Revelation, tells us that Jesus Christ is the ONLY way to Heaven. The way to Heaven is narrow—you must go through the Son of God. Few sinners will enjoy the eternal peace, joy and blessings of Heaven, because they are on the broad highway to Hell, having rejected Jesus as the Christ. Jesus is the Lamb of God, Who came into the world to save sinners (John 3:16-17). If you want to go to Heaven, then you must come to God as a guilty sinner and place your trust in the Son of God.

Jesus shed His literal blood to pay for our sins. Jesus has the nail-scared hands and feet, so only Jesus can save. We are not saved by our own self-righteousness; but rather, by Christ's righteousness, which is imputed (charged) to our record in Heaven the moment we get saved. Romans 4:5-6, “But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God IMPUTETH RIGHTEOUSNESS WITHOUT WORKS.” Praise God! No one has to go to Hell, it's your choice.

John 8:32 and 36, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free ... If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
