Study To Shew Thyself Approved

By David J. Stewart | October 2009

2nd Timothy 2:15, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

The internet is flooded with articles written by people who are woefully ignorant of the Scriptures. Anyone with a computer nowadays can say anything they want online. Most people aren't worth hearing.

The Bible commands the Christian to “study” in order to rightly divide the Word of truth, i.e., the Bible. Carefully notice that God doesn't tell us to go to Bible college to be approved unto God, although there's nothing wrong with attending Bible college. Carefully notice that God doesn't say to sit under a preacher to be approved unto God, although there's certainly nothing wrong with preaching. The Bible says to STUDY, for yourself.

The danger of going to Bible college or listening to a preacher is that they could be wrong, and many often are. Most of the churches around the world are of the Devil. Yes, they are of the Devil. I say that because they are false religions, teaching manmade traditions instead of God's commandments (Mark 7:9).

If only all churchgoers would start reading the Bible, then they'd learn about salvation and find the righteousness of Jesus Christ, which is solely by faith (Ephesians 2:8-9). Romans 4:5-6 teaches that we are saved, not by works of self-righteousness; but rather, by Christ's righteousness alone. Jesus paid our sin debt. There is nothing we can do to merit or work our way to Heaven. Salvation is of the Lord. Eternal life is the gift of God (Romans 6:23). Salvation is freely given (Romans 5:15), freely offered (Romans 10:13), and freely received (Revelation 22:17). Salvation is receiving, not giving.

I encourage you, whoever you may be, study the Scriptures for yourself. Jesus commanded us in John 5:39... SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES! This is where you'll find the answers to life. So many people foolishly listen to some priest, or some minister, or some wayward author, who are primarily interested in taking your money. God doesn't want anything from you. God already gave His only begotten Son for you, and for me, because He loves us (John 3:16).

John 8:32 and 36, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free ... If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
